Your unique brand is what differentiates you from your competition. Branding started when early mankind began to leave a mark to identify ownership of property, membership in a group, or to signify political and religious power. The Pharaohs of ancient Egypt used branding in the form of hieroglyphs on their tombs, monuments and temples. Brand marks were used on pottery and porcelain in ancient China, Greece, Rome and India. Branding of cattle and livestock go back as far as 2000 BC. History provides some insight and perspective on modern day branding, as it originated to provide quality assurance, identify source or ownership and differentiates, as a form of identification. Consumer’s value brand marketing for many of the same reasons today. Your brand allows you to build the appropriate marketing techniques to stimulate emotions, sounds, smells, and tastes to get your customers to react.

Follow these guidelines to guarantee successful branding to generate revenue that cannot be counted. Branding creates a reputation that is felt and not seen. This is one asset that cannot be seen on a balance sheet.

•	Get a fabulous logo. Place it on everything and everywhere.
•	Develop a tagline. Write an unforgettable and succinct statement that embraces the meaning of your brand.
•	Document your brand messaging. What do you want to communicate with your brand? All employees should be aware of your brand philosophy.
•	Incorporate your brand everywhere. Extend your brand to every aspect of your business: answering your phones, what you or your company representatives wear, your e-mail signature … absolutely everything.
•	Create brand standards for your marketing materials. Use the same templates, theme, colors, logo placement, look and feel throughout. You must be consistent.
•	Keep your word and your brand promise. If you want your customers to return, or refer you to their friends to you; keep your promises.

How will your prospects know how fabulous you are, if they don’t know who you are?

Hey there, have you been wondering what’s all the fuss about graphic design? Let me shed some light!

Graphic design is the combination of shapes, colors, typefaces, images and words that are drawn, painted, photographed, or computer-generated pictures that cause you to react or feel something. Imagine what you are sensing when your eyes are drawn to a soft colored, beautiful script type style on a lacy wedding invitation verses a large “yelling” type style in a bright color on an insert of the newspaper for an automobile ad. Graphic designers create, choose and organize these elements: images, typography and space (empty or not), around them to communicate a message. Graphic designers also design the many type styles found in books, magazines, menus and movie and TV credits too.

Graphic design is a huge part of your every day life, including everything from a candy wrapper to a billboard you see on the highway to the coffee cup you are drinking out of to the T-shirt you’re wearing to the pen you are writing with.

Just think about how effective is a fabulous restaurant menu if you can’t locate the beverages, or it’s impossible to tell which price is for what item?

Graphic design informs, persuades, amuses, organizes, invigorates, positions, identifies, attracts attention and provides enjoyment.

Now let’s talk about logos or symbols.
Logos or symbols are identifiers. Symbols are an abstract representation of a particular idea or identity. The Nike “swoosh” is a symbolic form. We learn to recognize certain symbols as representing a particular concept or company. Logo typestyles are corporate identifications based on specific type fonts. Some identifiers are basically a hybrid, or combination of symbol and logo type font. The designer must work closely with the client and have a clear vision of the corporation or idea to be represented and of the audience to which the message is intended.
